The United Nations’ senior official in Cyprus, Khassim Diagne, met this week with Mukhtars from several villages to discuss issues concerning the buffer zone.
According to UN Cyprus, the meeting included the Mukhtars of Avlona (Menelaos Savva), Deneia (Charalambos Alexandrou), and Mammari (Nikos Kotziapashis).
During the discussions, Mr. Diagne emphasized the need for cooperation with both communities on the island in order to keep the buffer zone calm and prevent tensions. The engagement was conducted in the context of the United Nations’ Action for Peacekeeping (A4P) initiative and the work of UN Peacekeeping.
